Which of the following expense categories is subtracted from total revenues to arrive at a firm’s EBIT?
1) Cash dividends
2) Depreciation expense
3) Interest expense
4) Tax liability
2- depreciation.
Dividends aren't an expense, they're an adjustment to equity. EBIT stands for "Earnings before interest and taxes", so you wouldn't deduct interest (3) or taxes (4) to arrive there.
