Is the "Snake Kit Zilla 20 long" a legitimate all inclusive environment for a baby ball python?
I'm looking to buy all the supplies I need for raising my first Ball Python, I don't have a ton of money but I would like to be able to raise a healthy animal safely and am wondering if this all inclusive product is legit?
No. The kit has vital supplies missing, and incluides crap you will not need. Reptile kits are too generalized to be any good, actually.
Missing: Heat controllers, proper themometers, one more hide, better bedding. Don't waste your money on useless supplies these kits seem to bring.
-Domes, Bulbs, blah blah. I prefer heat mats, because they don't remove humidity from the air, and provide belly heat. Your python will spend almost all its life on the terrarium floor, concentrate your heat on that. You can use lamps, but your main heat should be on the floor. There is no thermostat either. Lamps, mats whatever. You NEED temp control or your snake will most likely burn.
-Aspen or Cypress mulch is better than fir. Cypress is ideal and comes in bags at any hardware/garden store, it retains humidity and is easy to clean.
-A spray bottle from the dollar store with mildly warm water is the same thing as a humidifying spray, but cheaper.
-You need 2+ hides. One for the cool and one for the hot. If the baby is on the smaller size, more hides could be convenient for safety.
-GOD NO. Not gauges! Get digital IN/OUT thermometers with probes. Most come with a hygrometer built in. Gauges are terrible and usually off by 10-20 degrees.
